The battle of wills
When you've coddled Saddam this far, why stop now? Unsurprisingly, the UN, Old Europe, and the Vatican oppose the death penalty for Saddam. Some throw in the ridiculous meme that Saddam should be tried in an international tribunal. Whatever.
My prediction is that near-unanimous Iraqi popular will, backed by GWB, will not lose this battle of wills with their tyrant's former allies. Let's tally up the score in the battle of wills so far: Go to war? Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0. Contracts? Good Guys 2, Bad Guys 0. Debt relief? I think Jim Baker's on his way to making this Good Guys 3, Bad Guys 0. Try Saddam in the Hague? Go fish -- Good Guys 4, Bad Guys 0. Execute Saddam? Follow the pattern. . .
